Re: [EP-tech] Altmetrics

Hi Mary,
It looks like your server is struggling to server pages over HTTPS:
This works:
this fails (for me at least):

There is a line in the code that checks whether the page is 'secure'.
On the server, this is [EPRINTS_ROOT]/lib/plugins/EPrints/Plugin/Screen/EPrint/Box/Altmetric.pm
- or
https://github.com/eprintsug/altmetric/blob/master/lib/plugins/EPrints/Plugin/Screen/EPrint/Box/Altmetric.pm#L11

If you comment-out this line (put a '#' at the start of the line), and try to regenerate an abstract (for an item with a DOI), it might work.

I'm not sure what the intention of the 'get_secure' check is - it was there before I made the last edits to the Altmetric plugin - maybe we should remove it?

Cheers,
John

Hi Mary,

Looking at your repository (assuming it is ubir.bolton.ac.uk) I can see that you have the lastest (v1.2.0) version of the Altmetric plugin installed.  This uses a different URL (to lookup DOIs or ISSNs to get Altmetric data) to older versions.  Although looking round the _javascript_ you have installed on your repository this URL being used looks to be using the local /cgi/altmetric lookup script in the correct way/

The first thing I would try is going to a publication that has the id_number field set (Identification Number is the default label for this field but you may have changed this) and the value set is a DOI, (values like 10.1006/jmbi.1998.2354, doi:10.1006/jmbi.1998.2354, DOI:10.1006/jmbi.1998.2354, etc. should work) and regenerate the summary page.  The easiest way to do this is to make a small change to the record.  If you then look at the summary page (e.g. http://ubir.bolton.ac.uk/1009/ ) to see if an Altmetric plugin box is displayed.  If not, if you could point me at the page you tested and also provide the value you set in the id_number field, I can take a look to see what is wrong.  It is possible the Altmetric box plugin got disabled somehow but this is difficult to evaluate without access to the configuration for your repository.

I can see that you also have the CORE recommender plugin installed.  This can cause problems mainly with the CSS but in some cases with the _javascript_ as well.  Did you add this fairly recently and/or have you been able to see publication summary pages that include both the CORE and Altmetric plugin boxes?

Hi all

I have the Altmetrics plugin installed from the Eprints Bazaar, but it’s no longer displaying on any of the repository pages. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but this didn’t help.

Can anyone suggest a solution?

Thanks

Mary
