ROOT is a magic node that sits above everything. I would suggest, if you're building a tree from scratch, that you don't use the subject editor, but create an import a subjects file or an XML file. The subjects file format doesn't handle multilingual, but it's easier to create and edit. Perhaps create your tree as a subjects file, import it, then use the subject tree editor to edit each node and add the alternative language. Have you seen my training video that covers a lot of this stuff?
