We're building a 'digital library' - with lots of lovely thing from our Special Collections and other dark corners of the University. Metadata across collections is varied - trying to display a browse view for them as a whole is *nearly* impossible, as grouping requires some same-data to group by. Individual collections would also want their own styling: The Student newspaper conforms nicely to a 'normal' browse view - years/volumes/issues etc., but a collection of images of historical physical instruments (with free-form dates 'c.1920', '193?-194?', 'post war'?!), or photographs from a department from the turn of last century are a different matter. Ideally, I'd like a view with no menus - just items displayed at the top level - but according to http://wiki.eprints.org/w/Views.pl, "You must have at least one menu level." Yes, the interface will be inconsistent across different collections, but there will be consistency within a collection. The user experience of clicking a link just to click another link is not good... Hope that makes some sense!? I'm guessing you've found an example where this is really irritating - can you explain a bit more? -- Les On 21 Nov 2012, at 11:17, John Salter <J.Salter@leeds.ac.uk> wrote: > Hi, > I'm trying to work out the best way to make browse menus with only one item go straight to the item, rather than a page with one item, that then links to the item. > E.g. from http://demoprints.eprints.org/view/year/, the '2011' link only has one item. > I'd like the link '2011' text to link directly to http://demoprints.eprints.org/201/, rather than http://demoprints.eprints.org/view/year/2011.html - which then links to http://demoprints.eprints.org/201/. > > Has anyone looked at doing this? > > Cheers, > John > *** Options: http://mailman.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/eprints-tech > *** Archive: http://www.eprints.org/tech.php/ > *** EPrints community wiki: http://wiki.eprints.org/ *** Options: http://mailman.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/eprints-tech *** Archive: http://www.eprints.org/tech.php/ *** EPrints community wiki: http://wiki.eprints.org/
