easy to create a sitemap with a growing number of articles.

I already have the proposed patch applied to our eprints. We are currently using eprints 3.3.8 version. I guess the automatic sitemap generator is not working. We'd like to have an automated sitemap generated as we still import items to the repository and it will continue to grow. Do you know any export plug-in where i can get an export of the site in sitemap format?

You can try to add your custom sitemap.xml there: /opt/eprints3/archives/<id>/cfg/static/ then run /opt/eprints3/bin/generate_static<id>.
If that doesn't work, you may need to apply that patch: http://trac.eprints.org/eprints/changeset/6383
