RE: [EP-tech] Removing "Depositing user" URL Link from the Summary Page

CAUTION: This e-mail originated outside the University of Southampton.

Hi Alan and David

Thank you for your input.  Our fields used in the summary page are defined in the file /flavours/pub_lib/cfg.d/eprint_render.pl file . We don’t want to remove the field “userid” (i.e deposed user), we only want to remove it’s hyperlink which when clicked goes to the users profile.  Following is a link of an abstract:  https://eprints.kfupm.edu.sa/id/eprint/143247/

Thanks

Maher

Hi Maher, To follow up on what Alan said, it is most likely that this field (userid which is the machine-readable name for the "Depositing User" field) is being displayed in the summary table and the fields to be included in the summary

Hi Maher,

To follow up on what Alan said, it is most likely that this field (userid which is the machine-readable name for the "Depositing User" field) is being displayed in the summary table and the fields to be included in the summary table is defined under:

$c->{summary_page_metadata}

To add to what Alan said, this configuration is typically in cfg.d/eprint_render.pl.  You may find this in your archive's configuration directory (i.e. <EPRINTS_ROOT>/archives/<ARCHIVE_ID>/cfg/cfg.d/eprint_render.pl) but if you created your EPrints repository with the publications flavour, you might only find it under:

<EPRINTS_ROOT>/flavours/pub_lib/cfg.d/eprint_render.pl

If it is only here (and not under your archive'c cfg/cfg.d/ directory) I would advise copying the $c->{summary_page_metadata}  configuration to a file called z_eprint_render.pl under <EPRINTS_ROOT>/archives/<ARCHIVE_ID>/cfg/cfg.d/ and then removing the userid field there.

Once you have done this be sure to reload Apache and refresh abstracts:

apachectl graceful
<EPRINTS_ROOT>/bin/epadmin refresh_abstracts <ARCHIVE_ID>

As Alan suggests, there may be other ways that the depositing user is configured to appear on the abstract/summary page.  If neither his nor my advice helps, sending us a link for a summary page might be useful.  As it will give us a better idea of where the configuration to generate this may be coming from.

Regards

David Newman

Hi Maher,

It somewhat depends on your local configuration, but I would suspect that you have one of the following:

Within your local configuration directory <EPRINTS_ROOT>/archives/<ARCHIVE_ID>/cfg/cfg.d/ a file defining the config value “summary_page_metadata” which will contain the value “userid”, in which case you can remove the “userid” entry from the array list.

Alternatively, in <EPRINTS_ROOT>/archives/<ARCHIVEID>/cfg/citations/eprint/summary_page.xml  you should have a section with something like “<epc:print expr="userid" />”.  Again, removing that and any surrounding HTML to render it and its fieldname should handle this.

If you have trouble finding either of these in those locations you would need to copy some of the default configuration to the local area, so come back to the list and let us know what version of EPrints you are running – if you have a publicly accessible repository it can help to include a link to an example page with the issue you are trying to solve.

Regards,

Alan

Hi

We would like to know how to remove the depositing users URL link from the summary page?

Thanks

Maher
