I don't think the issue will impact datestamp fields (or anything where a full 4-digit year is stored).
A short-form year ('40', not '1940') will be interpreted relative to 'now' - so rendering a two-digit year isn't stable.

This is messy, but matches the way people currently think about two digit dates. Whenever possible, use an absolute four digit year instead."

As long as we heed the 'use a four digit year' rule, we should be OK!

We have made the change to the code and are presently testing it. Not sure that I understand the misbehavior that jploski made on the 4 of February thought. But we will monitor the thing as we deploy it.

There's a proposed patch, but not an official resolution (as far as I can see. There are some other issues documented in that thread).
