Dear prof. Stevan,

thank you for this ROAR list. I saw this example and I can coclude that Eprints software can be (and is being) used also to create archives for digital heritage. But I have just one question and I please you for explanation.
Can we develop multiple digital collection from digital material stored in Eprints repositoryin  (collection of newspaper, collection of manuscript, collection of photographs)? Can we organize in Eprints different digital collection in one common repository (data base) and can we browse them from one common interface, like in the example of the Cambridge digital library http://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/
Thanks for your help,
Ivana

Dear Ivana,

Eprints is organized differently from DSpace. It is not configured in terms of “collections” — although it of course can be.

Collections are an obsolete hard-copy library concept. In the digital world it is superseded by metadata tagging.

If you want to search your repository for only a subset of its contents belonging to a category, tag the items in the category accordingly, and then restrict the search to items that have that tag.

For technical questions about the eprints software, please write to the eprints-tech list.

Best wishes,

Stevan

Dear Ivana, here is the ROAR list of eprints installations that are not used as institutional repositories: http://roar.eprints.org/cgi/roar_search/advanced?location_country=&software=eprints&type=other&order=-recordcount%2F-date

Dear prof. Stevan

thanks you very much for your replay. Here, in Croatia, we use Eprints only for repository and we don't use it for archives of digital heritage. So, if you have a link for one example of arhives for digital heritage, I will be greatifull.

Best wishes,

Dear Ivana Saric,

The primary motivation for creating and maintaining Eprints is for creating institutional repositories that provide open access to institutional peer-reviewed research publications but the software can be (and is being) used also to create archives for digital heritage.

Best wishes,

Dear professor,

I know that you are working at Eprints software, so I please you for some explanation about Eprints.
I know that I can use Eprints software for the repository of academic papers, books, chapter and so on...
I would like to know does Eprints software can be used for the development of digital collections of cultural heritage (rare books, newspaper, manuscripts, photograpy and so on). I think that this is not purpose of Eprints, but I'm not sure? So, I please for this information.
Thanks for your replay,
