So, I've edited my hosts file to map to the loop back IP on the server but no luck. I should point out that I am trying the access the Eprints server from the web browser on another system. I wonder how the mapping will work on this other system when its DNS has no way of relating ubuntu.localdomain.com to the server's IP.
Please clarify.
Thanks a lot Andrew.
Cheers

Okay, so your host file is a text document that you can use to force web addresses to map to a specific IP. When you set up EPrints you have to specify the domain that it’s going to sit on; I used eprints.localhost and then had to edit this hosts file to tell Apache to look at 127.0.1.1 for eprints.localhost. There’s a beginners guide here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/27350/beginner-geek-how-to-edit-your-hosts-file/ and you’ll want to open it in gedit with either the root user or via sudo.

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad someone else has experienced this problem. :)
Please can you explain what you mean by "add EPrints to my hosts file"
Cheers

Hi Niyi,
I had a problem with this the other week setting up EPrints on a Virtual box – there’s a step in the installation that I found easy to miss which involves adding EPrints to your hosts file. For the record, I set my local version up on eprints.localhost.
Hope that helps!

Subject: [EP-tech] Issues with installing eprints on Ubuntu 12.04
Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right place to raise this but i'm having some issues with installing eprints on Ubuntu 12.04.
I have followed all the information here http://sirls.arizona.edu/sites/sirls.arizona.edu/files/EPrintsInstall.pdf about 3 times but I keep getting "It works! This is the default web page for this server. The web server software is running but no content has been added, yet" when I login to http://<my-eprint-ip>
Please help
Thank you
