[EP-tech] Re: Coversheets Bazaar plugin problems

Interesting - we are running Centos but I shall see if that module helps, as coversheets still isnt working as far as I can tell.

It is also saying Failed to stop OpenOffice when I try to do an openoffice stop via System Tools.

openoffice.pid and .log are in var, though there are no entries in .log

thanks for your help so far,

Strangely enough we were wrestling with this plugin yesterday.

We found that it required CPAN module OpenOffice::OODoc before we could get it to work on Ubuntu.

When you request a PDF that needs a coversheet, it queues an event to add the coversheet, so next time you request it, you get a coversheeted copy.

Unfortunately, some browsers cache the PDFs – so adding a querystring helps e.g. ….blah.pdf?A=1 ….blah.pdf?A=2

You can check on the filesystem that the PDF are being created too.

I also had various issues with OpenOffice running/not running – check in ~/var/ for openoffice.pid and the openoffice.log.

HTH,

John

Got it, thanks John and Seb,

I've run a couple of test uploads and it does not seem to be appending (prepending?) the coversheet at all to any pdfs. I've used Sebs test odt file and thrown in a logo for good measure.

Cannot find any obvious log to see where things might be going wrong, no errors when I epadmin reload.

Was there anything else you had to set up to make it go?

thanks,

If you’re on a new-ish version of EPrints, take a look under ‘Manage Records’.

You should be able to see the Coversheets dataset in there…

This is also something I’m looking at.

The problem I’m looking into is the metadata of the resulting covered PDF.

I can set metadata in the Coversheet, but when it’s appended, the resultant PDF loses it.

I’m not sure whether it’s the ODF to PDF that’s an issue, or the splicing of two PDFs.

Cheers,

John

Subject: [EP-tech] Coversheets Bazaar plugin problems

Hello all,

I'm trying to get the coversheets plugin from the bazaar to work. It states that

Coversheets are ready to be used on your system. To add templates go to the Admin page, under 'Config Tools'.

and we have openoffice installed, pdftk etc but there is nothing appearing under config tools, no options when e.g. uploading a new pdf.

Any suggestions on what to try, or at least what it should look like when it works?

thanks,
