[EP-tech] Re: SWORD & LDAP

I think EPrints requires SWORD clients to authenticate.

Is Proquest SWORD client able to use the X-on-behalf-of header?

If yes, then LDAP is probably not needed/useful, you can just create a new user account for Proquest in EPrints and set a password for it.

If no, then Proquest must be able to accept and pass through the user's username and password and LDAP will be useful.

As an aside, you might want to consider whether you think it is a bad idea to train people to enter their institutional login credentials into external systems whenever asked. At QUT it is not allowed and is enforced both at the systems provider level and staff/student level through the IT usage policy. It makes sense to me even though it can be a pain - we are setting up SWORD and will have to authenticate users against a separate key that is only for our repository.

Subject: [EP-tech] SWORD & LDAP

We are struggling getting LDAP to work with ePrints 3.3. Seems like an incomplete build because the documentation does not reflect the files.

Anyway, here is my question:

If we intend to use ePrints with Proquest via SWORD is there any reason to even pursue LDAP?
I mean if folks are submitting via Proquest and SWORD successfully simultaneously deposits into ePrints, is there a need for LDAP authentication?

Thank  you.

Sincerely,
Stephen
