The DepositMO project seeks to embed a culture of repository deposit into the everyday work of researchers. The project extended the capabilities of repositories to exploit the familiar desktop and authoring environments of its users, specifically, to deposit content directly from Microsoft Word and Windows Explorer.
The project produced client tools to add repository deposit capabilities to these familiar desktop applications, enabling them to communicate with the latest versions of popular repository software - DSpace and EPrints - which had been updated to include an extended profile of SWORDv2 specified by DepositMO.
The DepositMO project worked closely with the related SWORDv2 project, providing a sounding board for core profile developments, a testing base for software development and, most importantly, a representation of a critical use case.
The ultimate goal is to change the Modus Operandi of researchers so that repository deposit becomes standard practice across a wide range of disciplines using familiar desktop tools.
